In ongoing war between Larson and ICE, Mullin targets Larson and other progressives – labels them “anti-ICE Democrats”

Hartford, CT — John Larson issued a blistering response after being directly targeted in a partisan attack by DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. Larson said he was proud to stand with fellow progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Zohran Mamdani, and Cory Booker, who were targeted by Secretary Mullin for their anti-ICE activism.
Mullin’s attack video is a transparent retaliation against Larson’s unapologetic demand for the Secretary’s immediate resignation, and his calls to dismantle the agency. The video labeled Larson and other progressives “Anti-ICE Democrats,” a term Larson says he will wear as a badge of honor, and he will not be deterred by ICE’s intimidation tactics.
The post comes days after Larson demanded that Mullin resign in response to the recent ICE killings and ICE’s abduction of Seyo Cecunjanin, a West Hartford resident who Larson helped reunite with his family after the abduction.
In reaction to Mullin’s post, Larson said he was “proud to be an ‘Anti-ICE Democrat,’” and “terrorizing our communities and ripping babies out of the arms of their parents was Gestapo tactics, not enforcing the law.” He said, “ICE should be abolished.”
This latest clash is just the newest front in Larson’s unrelenting battle against the agency’s rogue and inhumane tactics. In the ongoing battle between Larson and ICE, Donald Trump and former DHS Secretary Noem put Larson on a hit list with progressives, including Jasmine Crockett and Pramila Jayapal, for their activism against ICE. Larson, who voted to abolish ICE at its inception, filed articles of impeachment against Noem in January.
Larson has called to go further than abolishing ICE. He proposes a total dismantling of the agency, demanding that the billions of taxpayer dollars currently funding ICE be immediately redirected to actually protecting and uplifting the American people by putting it toward healthcare and affordable housing.
