Larson holds more support in the race than the next two candidates combined
Hartford, CT – Congressman John Larson is “well-positioned to win the Democratic primary election” with a large lead in the Democratic Primary in Connecticut’s First Congressional District, according to a poll of likely primary voters conducted by GQR.
Larson holds a 23 point lead over his next closest opponent and carries about 50 percent of the vote in a three way race. Larson holds more support in the race than the next two candidates combined and leads in every region of the district and across the ideological spectrum.
The poll found that Larson takes 49 percent of the vote, former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin receives 26 percent, and State Representative Jillian Gilchrest holds 9 percent, with 15 percent undecided or supporting other candidates.
“Connecticut families know who John is and how he fights for them and delivers results. With rising costs, reckless wars, and a president who continues to use his power to hurt working families, the stakes have never been higher. They want him back in Congress because they know he can take on Trump and continue to deliver for their families,” Larson Campaign Manager Greg Gerratana said.
Other key notes:
- Larson enjoys near universal name recognition (92 percent) and is well liked (76 percent favorable)
- Voters believe he delivers for Connecticut (80 percent say that it describes Larson well)
- Larson wins all regions of the district, across the ideological spectrum, and among voters over 50 years (71 percent of the electorate)
- Larson maintains his lead throughout the survey, including after he is attacked for being older and having “been in office too long”
