WTNH News 8: Politicians, labor unions endorse Larson for Connecticut’s First Congressional District

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A group of current and former elected officials and several labor unions announced their endorsements of incumbent John Larson (D) in the race for Connecticut’s First Congressional District on Thursday.

Larson is running against former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin for the Democratic nomination.

Connecticut State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Matt Lesser (D-9th), former U.S. Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and former U.S. Representative Barbara Kennelly (D-Conn. 1st) endorsed Larson.

“People are tired of politicians who talk the talk of progressive politics but in the dark of night do the bidding of Wall Street and billionaire financiers. John Larson is the antithesis. He has earned the trust of our district and has never wavered in standing up to special interests to protect the working families of Connecticut,” State Sen. Lesser said in a statement.

Larson received endorsements from the following labor unions:

  • International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
  • International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC)
  • International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC)
  • International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT)
  • Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ International Association (OPCMIA)
  • United Association – Union of Plumbers, Fitters, Welders, and Service Techs (UA)
  • United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers, and Allied Workers
